“I have been cooking for more than 60 years, and I have been painting sporadically for half a century. Both are part of who I am, how I feel, and how I react to a sensual or esthetic experience.” Jacques Pepin
Yes, that Jacques Pepin!
Jacques has been creating culinary and visual art for decades. While his reputation in the kitchen is known worldwide, his creative talent with a paintbrush has remained much less known. Much of Jacques’ artwork celebrates the food and animals he’s been surrounded by for his whole life. Some of his (and his fans’) favorite subjects are chickens, roosters and other barnyard animals.
The Artistry of Jacques Pepin website was launched in 2015 to sell both original artwork and fine art-quality prints of some of Jacques’ artwork. The prints are created using the giclée process to yield the highest possible quality. Prints are available for sale framed and unframed. A portion of sales from the site go to support culinary education and sustainability.
For years — in addition to paintings — Jacques has been creating hand-drawn and illustrated menus for large and small events, from intimate dinners to Boules parties. Some of these are available for sale as fine-art prints on The Artistry of Jacques Pepin.
The site features a gallery of all of the artwork that has been available for sale on the site, including original paintings that have been sold and limited edition prints that have been sold out and “retired.” Limited edition prints are published in print runs of 100, 150 or 200. Each limited edition print is individually signed and numbered by Jacques. Once a limited edition print run sells out, that print is retired and no more are printed or sold.
Jacques talks about his cooking and painting in a message that spans many subjects and lets us in on his ideas and philosophies about the different aspects of his creative life.
