The Chautauqua Institution Food Festival opens on August 20th in Bestor Plaza with barbecue, wine and beer and later, the festival will host Ross Warhol, formerly the chef at the Athenaeum Hotel. Chef Warhol is now executive chef at Buffalo’s fine dining Oliver’s restaurant.
Jacques Pepin will be headlining the 2017 festival on August 21, 2017.
The festival runs from August 20-25 and will feature chefs, authors and other guests as well as one-of-a-kind dinners and tasting events. Also on the 21st, restaurants from Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh will feature food and demonstrations and participate in cooking competitions. Chef Ben Shropshire of Soul Gastrolounge in Charlotte, N.C., offers a five-course menu.
On the 23rd, food trucks from Rochester and elsewhere will showcase their food and drink and Small Planet Institute’s Anna Blythe Lappe will be the featured speaker.
On the 24th, the start of the show will be wine. The festival will host wine tastings and demonstrations from regional vineyards. Food educator Marion Nestle from New York University will be the featured speaker. The Athenaeum Hotel’s Heirloom restaurant will host dinner.
On the 25th, the festival’s focus will be DIY food. Chefs and others will take part in workshops and demonstrations featuring a range of techniques including pickling canning and cider-making. The evening closes with a beachside clambake and beer garden.
